Nesting

It has been a while since I actually have written a “post” post. I have been quite busy, you see, what with the upcoming exams and such, so I have been pretty much confined in my own little nest. And like a mother hen, I have been “nesting” and “trying to absorb” piles and piles of information into my tired little brain, which I hope would be stuck there for the next remaining few days or so, haha. By the time of the exams, I hope the little “study eggs” would hatch rather nicely and be able to help me remember the things that I have studied these past few weeks or so. How’s that for a bad analogy? Hahaha.. I am just de-stressing for a while, so just bear with me now, hehe.

There is a LOT to learn in med, you see. And I am just in my first year. When I think back to my Biomed years, it seemed to be such a breeze compared to now, well in terms of workload that is. The assignments were fewer and were usually due at the end of the semesters. And we had much more free times, more breaks and less anxiety. In med, we had FQs which can be considered as a small assignment each week, which are needed to be done and presented to the rest of your PBL group within 2-3 days time. At the same time, you have to learn everything you have to know in relation to the case of the week, which are varied although they are based on the System block, such as neurology block or musculoskeletal block. I have to try to keep up to date with the cases though sometimes I admit that I do get lazy and waited to the end of the week or a more so to actually read the case more thoroughly, haha. That must change in the future. :p But I do enjoy the fact that I get to meet up with different sorts of people. Well, maybe that’s due to the fact that we were kind of thrown in and mixed together into a group. There are 40 PBL groups this year, so it really is random, and it depends on your luck whether you get a good group or not. It is really in Med that I actually get to hang out and get to know “orang putih” friends. During Biomed, we, the Bruneian group, 13 or 14 of us, usually hang out together and did our work or practicals together. We do make a few “orang putih” friends but they have their own “orang putih” groups as well, haha. But in med, it is a different setting completely. The format or course work is very different indeed. As I said before, everybody gets randomly allocated to different PBL groups, which you would be spending most of your year with. The people in your PBL group are the ones that you will have your PBL tutorial sessions with, practicals with, clinical coaching with, workshops with, eat with and you get my drift, hehe. Being used to be together with Bruneians since Biomed, now we are separated and each have different schedules from one another. But luckily some of us actually are put in pairs to different groups together. Sometimes there were practicals or tutorials in which we get to see each other. The only definite time for everyone to be in the same place at the same time would be in the lecture theatre.

There are times when the anxiety levels are very high. These would include the times when we actually have to record videos at the hospital, of us “acting” as the doctor and trying to get the History of the patient, which will then be reviewed by your tutor along with your PBL mates. The first time going for “ward” visits was quite exciting and I don’t really know what to expect. So there we were, dressed rather smartly though acting a bit awkwardly (and you can see it was our first time) going on ward tours, smiling consciously to patients who you do not know would be receptive of your smiles or not, hehehe. Being in med, makes me more independent, sometimes travelling to the hospital alone, going to tutorials on my own and so forth. Pandai- pandai lah bawa diri, haha.

Hmm, it seems like I am in a reminiscing mood tonight. I should be studying ni, ish ish ish. I was thinking of just writing a quick short post as a break from studying, haha.. My exams will be on Tuesday and Wednesday. I am really looking forward to Wednesday.. really.. hehe. But dreading the exams as well since there are still some stuff to study yet. But on a positive note, I am very much looking forward to Thursday since I’ll be flying off to Brunei that morning! Come to think of it, I haven’t really started packing properly yet. I just threw in some of the stuff that I have bought into my luggage and some are still in their bags on my wardrobe floor, hahaha.. My room is a total mess right now; some papers were strewn on the floor, on my desk and some of my bed. The clothes that I have retrieved from the clothing line just now are still in my laundry basket waiting to be hung in my wardrobe (I will do that tomorrow during one of my “breaks” haha), dusts are collecting on some of my display and room decorations (I swear my room is always collecting new dusts that I have to clean and wipe every few days! Ish ish ish.. I shudder to think what will happen when I get back in a few months time.. I will probably be welcomed by a giant monstrous dust bunny.. hahaha :p) and you get the picture, haha. If my mom could see the state of my room now, she’ll be really “bising” hahaha.. coz she always likes things neat and tidy all the time. But excuse the exam time, now I couldn’t be bothered since I have other things on my mind hehehe.

As I said before, I am looking forward to Wednesday. I am planning to do a last minute shopping for some stuff that I haven’t bought yet. There’s the hand bag that my sister wants me to get, some more boxes of tea for my mum, and some other small stuff in my list. I am actually considering of buying something for my own. By that time the allowance will be out, yezzerr.. :p So things to do after the exams would be:

1) Do last minute shopping (maybe at Indroo)

2) Go to Hsn and Mea’s place to send house keys

3) Go home and properly pack

4) Prepare passport, tickets and all necessary documents in one place

5) Cleaning campaign at home

6) Don’t sleep since will be too excited to leave for Brunei the next day :p

Once in Brunei, I will be getting a few days rest before starting my elective. I'll be spending 2 weeks of GP at Sungai Asam Clinic (I still dont know where the exact place is yet, hehehe.. I will need to do a little exploring before starting the elective there :p) and another 2 weeks at the gastroenterology department at RIPAS. I don't know what to expect during the elective. I havent really thought much about it now, been more preoccupied with the coming exams. Though there's a little mixture of excitement and nervousness since this will be my first elective or attachment as a med student. Hehehe.. I hope I will be able to enjoy the experience and learn new things.

Well there you go.. There’s my version of a “short” post, haha. Bah, will try to get my brain working again. Or else will try to sleep and continue studying tomorrow.

Gd night! :)

The quest for the purple flowers

After a day of studying tadi, I decided to go for a jog in the afternoon. Finally, yay!! I say to myself; Self, sudah exercise mentally, why not exercise physically? :p The weather was cooperating as well, not too hot and not cold.. just nice lah. Bila dikira-kira, I think that I have not jogged for quite some time now, ada kali 2 bulan labih, ish ish ish.. Patut tah makin "sihat" as commented by my mom masa ia nampak my recent pictures, hahaha.. oh well, puasa udah tu sebulan nah, hehehe.. tapi malam nya makan ehhh.. that did not help my case at all, haha.. oh well, asal bahagia :p

Anyhuuu, I started my "jog" around 4:30pm tadi. I decided to begin on a different route. Usually tarus saja ku jalan ke sports complex di UQ and ke bridge, but today, I decided to "tukar angin". Instead, I began around the William Dart Park near Munro St since I wanted to see the beautiful purple Jacaranda trees again.

On the way to the William Dart Park

William Dart Park, St Lucia

Batah nda jogging, ketara nda fit, haha, naik bukit along Carmody Rd pun kapus-kapus :p

I made my way down the hill to Mitre Street, and singgah skajap membuzz rumah Syimsyim and Nabnab. Lapas atu, Syimsyim decided to join me jogging. Together we made our way to McQuarie Street, sambil cerita-cerita and jalan-jalan atu, cuci mata and begambar with the beautiful blossoming flowers. Lawa-lawa the sceneries tadi, lapas arah sebuting pokok, begambar lagi kami arah pokok lain, hahaha, lain plang wah kami buat tadi atu. :p

Bunga purple kembang cantik ditaman dan siring-siring jalan

Promosi kasut nike dan puma, haha

Ani kami tejumpa this one place, lawa! ada banyak purple petals dapan this building along McQuarie street jua. Ani attempt to gambar sendiri tapi nda nampak the petals, haha

Syimsyim's attempt at melumpat, haha

Arah McQuarie St

On the way to the UQ sports complex, we met Cass who was also jogging along the pathway. So the 3 of us, jalan tah together.

Cass and Syimsyim

We then made our way to the Eleanor Schonell bridge from one end to the other.

The view of the Brisbane river from the bridge

Another purple tree

And another purple tree at UQ.. hehe

On the way to the road under the bridge

From there, Syimsyim and I made our way back along McQuarie Street again, then singgah arah restaurant thailand bali minuman, haha.. kalau di brunei ni, sudah tah kali singgah makan murtabak, hahaha.. Anyhuu, we then went back to our respective homes. Sampai rumah 6:20pm. Batah wah, kami "jogging" atu, hehe. It was fun though and refreshing lah jua.

Malam cooked dinner, watched Australian Idol, belajar, then blogging. There you go.. that's how my day went. How's yours?

Gd night! :)

The one when we study, raya and shop

Hello all! How are ya doing? Sorry for the lack in updates these past few days.. bukan apa, sibuk belajar, procrastinating, beraya, shopping for Brunei, and macam-macam lah lagi, hehe. It has been raining a lot lately here in Brissy land and that's my kind of weather. The days have been dark and gloomy, the roads wet with rain, the pavements filled with puddles and the wind cooling which is a great change compared to how hot it has been before. I love rainy weather, well only if I'm indoors, that is. Kalau di luar abis tia basah kalau hujan labat, hehe.

Apa saja tah ku buat these past few days? On thursday, I was in the kitchen early in the morning to prepare some food for my last PBL session this year. Saja2 kan bawa makanan, hehe. The last PBL was kind of bittersweet I guess. I was relieved that, that would be the last session, since I won't be going through the same repeating schedule every week lagi, but at the same time sad jua, since I won't be seeing much of my PBL mates anymore until the exams, and next year, insya Allah, we'll be again randomly allocated to different PBL groups. I hope I'll be in a good group next year, mudahan saja pass exams nanti, Amin! The PBL session went on as usual, discussing the last case of the year. How fast time flies! It is almost the end of my Year 1 in med. Through the PBL group, which is a bunch of international and local students, I've met and made some new friends from other cultures and nationalities which is an interesting experience I have to say. The good thing is that they have been accepting of the differences in our culture, like the fact that we don't drink alcohol, don't eat pork or animals not slaughtered the Islamic way, wear colourful scarves, how long we fast and so forth, but not without any curious questionings on why this and that is so, hehehe. I guess we learn from each other which is a good thing lah, hehe. Ada my friend ani, curious ia, betanya tia if my hair is long or short since I wear tudung to uni kan, but first ia apologise dulu before asking since she doesn't mean to be disrespectful or anything katanya. Senyum2 ku saja, and I said it's ok to ask and I said lah my hair atu kirakan shoulder length lah sudah masa ani, hehe. Some of them were asking jua about Ramadan ani since I didnt touch any food masa puasa, and my tutor pun curious tah jua betanya how long sudah ku puasa masa bulan puasa ariatu. I said we puasa one month and I have a few days to go lah lagi. My tutor was looking at me macam orang kesian and an "aww" face hahah and I told her that aku biasa sudah since kami kana train dari damit sudah kan. Macam-macam lah hehe. I'm sure my other friends yang belajar di sini ani pun ada kana tanya a lot of these types of questions jua kan, haha. Pandai-pandai tah tu tani menjawap, haha..

So we finished PBL by 2pm. I went home and Cass was helping me to carry the containers and mangkuks that I have been using tadi for the food, home. Ada Syimsyim and Nabnab di rumah rupanya, "studying" haha.. Belurih jua lah sikit-sikit kami membaca. Then Syimsyim and I decided to go to Indroo to start shopping untuk family di Brunei. First we went to the city dulu, jalan2 skajap di sana then we went to catch the bus to Indroo. Banyak yooo orang menunggu bus ke Indroo atu. First we went to the bus stop (stop 40) at Adelaide street. Ramainya! Then we decided to catch a different bus at King George Busway tah saja instead. We went there, and panjang wah queue nya ah. Apa nda, waktu atu masa orang baru balik kraja. It was around 5 something tu that time. We went to the right stop and started queuing. According to the monitor, the bus was supposed to arrive in 2 minutes time. Tunggu punya tunggu, nda jua datang2 bus ani, sampai ada kali 15 minutes. Then there was an announcement, stating that there has been an accident arah Coronation Drive, so ada traffic jam and the bus will be delayed for quite some time. We decided to leave the busway and try to catch the bus from stop 40 at Adelaide Street tadi tah saja, maybe we'll be lucky this time. Once there, panjang jua masih queue nya ani, ish ish ish, and suspiciously macam ada some familiar faces yang menunggu bus dari tadi atu jua. I thought that this is gonna be a whileee.. So Syimsyim and I waited for the bus which nda jua datang-datang nya. Restless kami tarus, haha, rasa jua kan ke Indroo atu kan. The bus FINALLY arrive around 6:30pm and we scrambled to the front, nda lagi ingau kan bequeue tu, hahaha.. orang lain sama jua, asak-asak kan masuk bus dulu, ijap nda dapat seats. Ngalih bah udah menunggu dari tadi atu. We managed to get seats and finally were on our way to Indroo.. Fuhhhh, panjang ceritaku, baru jua pasal menunggu bus tu ah, haha..

To make the indroo story short, we arrived in Indroo close to 7pm, then went our separate ways before kami meet up at 8:30pm to buy dinner arah KFC. Belurih jua ku membali some stuff untuk my sister and dad. Bekirim teddy bear tah jua adiku ani, hehe, macam-macam haha.. We tapau the food then balik ke St Lucia and ate dinner at Syimsyim and Nabnab's place. Yunyun was already there with Nabnab.

On Friday, spent the day at home studying. Late afternoon, I decided to award myself by jalan2 dicity, hahaha.. nda bah, aku atu kan membali barang lagi.. incit-incit lah bali barang untuk Brunei, ijap ku nda sampat membali before going back to Brunei nanti. So I went out around 4pm ke city, jalan-jalan keluar masuk kadai. Belurih lah jua, since I took my own sweet time jalan-jalan. Pukul 9pm barutah ku balik, hehehe. I met with a lot of Bruneians jua that night. Tejumpa ku Sa'dy, then there's also c YJ, Widi and Husma arah bus stop masa kan balik. Hsn and Azim pun ada jua, and we balik sama-sama on the same bus back to St Lucia. Ada ku bali cadar baru, iatah semangat, tarus lagi ku tukar cadar and quilt ku that night, hehe.

On Saturday, stayed home during the day to study. Malam, we have an invitation to Farah and her brothers' Raya open house hampir city. Arah c Acai ku dulu awal atu to get change for bus ticket, and tejumpa durang Azim, Nurul and Farah diluar kadai c Acai jua. Yunyun and I went to wait for the bus arah dapan nandos and jumpa Sa'dy, Syimsyim and Nabnab di sana. Skali naik bus, and on the next bus stop tejumpa jua with other bruneians, c Rahmat sama housematesnya apa. Another bus stop lagi, and tejumpa lagi orang Brunei lain, all with the same destination, jadi kami bebaya tah ramai-ramai ke sana. It began to rain lightly during that time jua. Siuk jua kami jalan kaki lapas turun bus atu ke open house.

We stayed there until 11pm. The St. Lucians balik together naik bus. Meriah lah jua the open house hehe.

Today, stayed home studying, then went to Coles arah Toowong to buy cookies untuk Brunei, then balik rumah, then study some more. Tejumpaku c Farah senior tadi masa tunggu bus di toowong. Yunyun and I went to Syimsyim and Nabnab's place to cook dinner together. We had lemon chicken, rojak and daging kerisik. We watched I'm not Single, a Malay movie from youtube, then buat kraja2 sendiri. At 11pm, balik rumah and update blog, haha. My updates will not be as frequent as before since my exams are drawing nearer and nearer. Wish me luck! :)

That's all folks.

Gd night! :)

Hot and Cold

It is so so hot in Brisbane lately that I begin to question if summer has arrived.. Waseh awal wah kalau kan summer, balum batah jua spring, hehe. It is so hot inside the house, apa ni, "meruap" nya orang, that really affects my studying mood. Nda "kebalasan" wah rasanya kipas atu, ish ish ish. Now, I'm eating my third ice cream of the day. Segerrrr... hehehe...

Makan ice cream.. cooling and yummy, haha

Yesterday, I had my early morning 8am PBL. Woke up at 7am, then was on my way to uni at 8am. Awu, ahir ku jalan, biar ia, haha.. When I arrived in the PBL room, the PBL was just starting, even my tutor was not there yet. Apparently her daughter was sick so she has to tend to her before going to work. It was Mary's birthday yesterday, so she brought a birthday cake. Two of my PBL mates also brought 2 cakes, so Mary had 3 birthday cakes to cut and serve, haha. Lucky for us.. She told me that she bought a "Halal" cake which is a sweet and considerate gesture from her part, though I'm not sure how she would know if the cake is halal or not, hehe.. I'm afraid to ask... haha.. she knew that I don't drink alcohol so I guess she may have made sure that it is alcohol-free. Nyaman jua lah cake nya atu. Another mate brought the blueberry cheesecake from the Cheesecake shop.. atu nyamannn, so creamy and melty in my mouth.. Another bawa chocolate mud cake, which aku makan jua since ku check okay ingredientsnya, hehe.. We sang her a birthday song then proceeded with PBL while enjoying our 3 different cakes.

This will be the last week of our PBL before the exams. The case for this week is on Depression. We do not assign any FQs but we have to kirakan do all the FQs and then discuss on thursday for our final PBL session for this year. We ended PBL 30 minutes earlier than we usually do. After PBL, I went to the library to do some reading. While doing so, angan-angan tah ku apa makanan kan ku bawa for the last PBL nanti. I was thinking of kan membawa ayam kah or something, so I made a decision to go to Chinatown tarus, since I do not want to disturb my free days on tuesday and wednesday nanti. I went via bus to the city to buy some stuff, before taking the bus to Chinatown. Bought 2 kgs of chicken wings and 1 kg of sausage. I hope cukup, haha, nda ku tekarih kan mengangkat more kgs. Went back via train to toowong and bus to St lucia.

Had my lunch then Syimsyim, Nabnab and Yunyun datang from Hawken drive. Sady came over as well later. We watched a chinese movie though aku nda brapa concentrate meliat, haha. Malam, I did some reading for this week's case. Watched Australian Idol as well. I am not satisfied with the choices for the bottom 3 this week atu, but what can one do, it depends on the public vote jua kan. One of my favourites keluar last night, though I think ada lagi yang deserve to keluar depending on the last performance atu. Oh well, hehe, no need to get all worked up about that now, self. :p

So today, I was actually planning to wake up at 8am, since I wanted to start studying early kan. Sekali balik-balik ku snooze my alarm, sampai ahirnya bangun 9:30am, haha. Did my laundry and whatever stuff that would delay the actual "studying" haha. Start tah ni bekurung belajar dalam bilik sorang-sorang. My studying today was not as productive as I have hoped it would be. The fact that it was so hot may contribute to that. Sampat lagi tu ambil a "short" afternoon nap tia apa, hahaha.. I hope tomorrow will be much better, :P

Balik-balik ku minum hari ani. During the afternoon, I went to Acai's. Awalnya kan bali sikui since dari last night ku tais liur kan makan. Skalinya, meliat sikuinya atu, nda membagi liur kan makan, nda brapa fresh usulnya tadi atu, haha, so instead, I bought ice cream, sesuai dengan hari yang panas ani. Went home, tried to continue studying, then had my dinner.

Ku buka my window tadi to let the cooler air in. Can you see the tiny crescent moon?

Bah, kan rehat ku. Study session will commence again tomorrow.

Gd night! :)

Second day of Raya

Raya Day 2

Hari ani would be the first day of Raya in Brunei. I was texting my mom early this morning, iatah sibuk ia nya, preparing for a family gathering at our home di Brunei. Awal ku bangun a bit tadi, since I wanted to revise a bit on this week's case. I have been neglecting my readings this week since sibuk beraya, haha.. Masih lagi raya mood masa ani, iatah nada rasanya mood kan belajar atu, ish ish ish, not good, not good at all, hahaha. So spent this morning at home lah. While I was getting ready to go out to uni, ada tia my tua menelipun jua, betanya kabar and kan mengucapkan SHR jua nya. Thanks for all the raya txt msgs, especially ada dari my amit and iring, sambil-sambil atu menyuruh bersabar and kuatkan semangat since I'm away from my family apa kan.

At close to noon, I walked to uni for my PBL session. Ada ku membawa biskut cornflakes that I made ariatu for my PBL mates. C Cass ada jua membawa cake tadi. Nyaman cake c Cass buat atu. They seemed to like the biskut and Aileen wanted the recipe for the biskut, iatah nanti ku bagi. After PBL, I walked back home. Nada ku rasa kan stay di library, iatah balik tah ku, and I wanted to call my family di Brunei jua. When I called home, ramai orang di rumah since the whole family bekumpul di rumah for the first day of raya. Siuk jua dapat becakap with some uncles, aunties and cousins at the same time.
