I'm Back!

Hello everyone! :) It has been agggeeessssss since my last update. How is everyone doing? I think my last post was about 2 months ago. Within that period, I have turned 26 which doesn't really make me feel much different to be honest, then there's fasting and Eid which I gotta say wasn't as 'meriah' as it was last year, and at the same time my sister came for more than 2 months of holiday which was fun, and work has kept me busy nowadays. I have a few things to post to update you guys on what I have been up to these past 2 months so let's get cracking! hehe.

Miri Trip!

2 Sundays ago, Nabilah, Rahmat, Tiyah and myself had our first outing together to Miri. We made it to Miri without any incident. Rahmat was our designated driver. Thank goodness for the very short queue. The currency exhange from BND to Malaysian ringgit was 2.43. Here are some piccies! :)

Yesterday, Nabilah, Tiyah, Zul & myself decided to check out Bridex which was held in Jerudong. We had an early breakfast at the Curry House in Lambak before heading to UBD to catch a shuttle bus to take us to Bridex. We arrived to get our tickets checked out and was given a Bridex pen souvenir before heading for security checks. We managed to catch some of the air show then explored the exhibition area. Island Adventure

Yesterday was the last day of the course that I attended in the army. After having a group presentation, exam and certificate presentation in the morning, I am now a para counselor! Alhamdulillah hehe. To spend the last day together, we had an outing to Pelumpong Island for another round of activities and bbq in the afternoon.

It was a sunny day and looked promising. With all our equipments and food, we departed from the Navy base in Muara using army long boats. It was a rather exciting experience for me since it was an opportunity of a lifetime and that I have never ever been to Pelumpong island before. The journey did not take long, and we eventually reached the island. The beach is clean, the water greenish blue and the air fresh.

We unloaded our equipments, then started to set up camp, bbq area and so on. The afternoon was spent with doing group activities (Thank goodness, no swimming this time, haha), mingling and eating. We stayed until 7pm, before heading back to the base. It started raining on our way back to base and no one was spared from getting wet haha. The last day was bittersweet with everyone promising to keep in touch and a possibility of a reunion in the new future. I am rather sad to see the course ends as I have been enjoying the course and everyone's company for the past 2 weeks.

Roughing It Out at Sea

Hi everyone! :)

I have been super busy these past 2 weeks. I have just finished attending a para counseling course in the army. It was a super awesome course, which I have enjoyed tremendously. I think that from all the courses that I have attended, this is the most fun that I have had. In addition to lectures and practicals, we also have outings, visits and outdoor activities.

One part of the course is adventure based counseling. For this activity, we spent 1 whole day at the Watermanship in Serasa. It was a day of many firsts for me. As you may not know, I am not a swimmer. It turned out, the day's activities will be spent mostly in the sea! You can imagine my trepidation when this was announced hehe. Most of my course mates are army personnel and they are fantastic in helping out a non-swimmer like me at the sea! Thank goodness for the existence of life jackets which helps to keep me at least afloat, lol. However, there was a time where we were asked to remove our life jackets in the waters and to combine all the jackets together before we move to another location!

I have to say it was rather terrifying for a non swimmer like me to be floating in the middle of the waters with no ground to at least centre myself. I remember the feeling of lying flat on my back, bobbing in the waters, looking up at the blue sky and praying that I will stay floating while being pulled by my group mates to reach our destination. For that I am very grateful for their help in motivating me along.

We spent a few hours doing a few activities in the waters, then headed back to land to build a raft per group using logs, ropes and floaters and then to use the raft that we built to go rafting in the sea. Despite using tons of sunblock, I still managed to get sun burns and cuts on my arms which I think I got while holding onto the poles in the sea. The poles has corals or some sharp things stuck to them haha. Building the raft was also a great experience since our main concern is to make sure that the raft will stay put, our ropes tight enough and the raft will stay floating for us to go to and fro from the departing area. Overall, I enjoyed the activity very much and it will certainly be something that I will always remember in a long time. :)

First Birthday

2 Saturday nights ago, I was out with the gang and we decided to try out Pines restaurant which caters to both Korean & Japanese cuisines. We ordered Korean food to be shared among ourselves. Food was definitely good especially the Kimchi Ramyun despite it being hot! I am not a fan of hot spicy dishes haha. However, my mouth is watering just thinking of it! Nyum! Definitely worth another visit. :)

We gathered at my place and little did Nabilah know, we actually had planned to surprise her with a belated birthday cake hehe. After the birthday cake surprise, we were then on our way to the resort which took about 30 minutes or so to reach from my house. After dinner, we went to town to check out the new Waterfront. Lots of people were mingling around the place though it was kinda dark. Somehow it reminds me a bit of Brisbane square haha :P

Bowling Night

One Night in Temburong

Hello folks! :) I'm back with more updates. So to continue with my orientation story, we had an opportunity to stay 1 night in Temburong. Our main transport to Temburong is via speed boat from the bandar hospital jetty to Temburong jetty which took about 45 minutes. The ride was quite uneventful until we came across a dead floating crocodile on the water.

On arrival in Temburong, we drove to the hospital and were given a tour of the place. In Bangar Town, I stayed at the youth hostel using bunk beds in a large room shared with 14 other girls. After getting settled in, prayers and lunch, we headed to Bukit Patoi for our afternoon hike. It was lightly drizzling and the climb was a bit slippery. After the hike (I did not reach the top, Ha! :P) we went back to rest at the youth centre and decided to head to Tamu Temburong just across the street to buy snacks. The banana fritters are very cheap because for B$1 you can get 10 pieces of it! That's very generous and cheap! :O After happily getting our inexpensive fritters, cakoi and coconut drinks, we walked back to the centre.

We spent the rest of the afternoon mingling and relaxing before joining in for a night of activities at the centre. The next morning, we packed up early and after breakfast headed to Outward Bound Brunei for a tour of the place. After the tour, we headed back to Bangar to explore the town on foot and have another breakfast at one of the restaurants. We were then invited to attend a function at the Community Hall before heading back to the jetty to catch the boat back to Temburong.

One Night in Rambai

As I mentioned in the previous post, I recently attended a 2-week induction course with fellow new officers of the ministry. I enjoyed the course very much and got to learn new stuff as well as making new friends who are also my new colleagues.

As part of the program, we had a one night stay in Rambai and so spent the whole day and night doing tons of activities involving team building. We set off on a bus in the morning, and 1 1/2 hour later arrived at our destination. At the end of the day, my body was aching so much since we had to sit on the concrete floor all day but it was definitely worth it hehe. Below are some piccies! :)

Aerobics and Walkathon

Hello everyone! It is almost a month since I last posted anything. I have been super busy for the past 2 weeks since I had been involved in an induction course organised by the ministry. Thus, I have several things to post after this, hehe.

Let's start with a walkathon that my colleagues and I went to at Taman SOAS just last month on the 24th of April 2011. World Cancer Day Walkathon

Hello dear readers! :)

Wow, it has been a month since my last post. I have been super super busy as of late hence the neglect in posting. I hope everyone is doing well. Current update in my life: same old, same old me, hehe, busy with work and such. Oh and my sister is still in Brunei on extension. While waiting on further news on when they will be resuming studies in Cairo, she has been attending a few lectures at Tahfiz & KUPU every week. Mom and dad just had their birthdays last week. I'll post some pics later on.

On 13 February, I attended a World Cancer Day Walkathon at Jerudong Park. We had to be there by 6:30am and started out with a warm up and aerobic session before starting the walk. Below are some piccies! :)

Jazmine's Wedding

Last Friday night, an old primary school friend of mine from Sunshine School, Jazmine Athirah invited me and a couple of our x-classmates to her wedding reception in IGS college in Kiulap. I went together with Mas and Zamriah. The space was transformed beautifully with wedding decorations, flowers and a large golden wedding throne. Back for the Holidays

Hi folks! :)

I am currently in a holiday mode. My sister is back for her 2-week holiday from Cairo since the 26th of January, and my family and I are very grateful that she is safely in Brunei right now, especially with the news of the trouble and protesting that are currently happening in Egypt. It is certainly a dangerous situation and we pray that the other Brunei students will be safe from all the troubles. We heard from my sister's housemates that there were tanks and men with rifles wondering about outside their current apartment last Sunday. Oh my goodness! That would certainly be a frightening sight! It looks like that my sister has to extend her holidays in Brunei until the situation has calmed down. Of course we are very happy to spend more time with her much longer than planned.

Last Saturday night, I attended a Medical Social Worker Annual Dinner that we organised at Radisson hotel in the capital. It was a great time to mingle at a different social setting as well as getting to know more of one another especially when all the districts were in attendance. Beach BBQ

Last Sunday, we had a BBQ at Seri Kenangan Beach in Tutong. We convoyed from my house to the beach and met up with Farah there at around 10 in the morning. We had a potluck, and had chicken, prawn, lamb, pulut panggang, kelupis, sausages, curry puffs, drinks, snacks and so on. I managed to get a bit of sunburn from the outing. Hee! :)

Hjh Radiah's Engagement

Hajat Prayers & Birthdays

Hello everyone! :)

So sorry with the late updates. I have been busy this past week or so. I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a Happy New Year! I hope you had a good 2010 and wish you will be having an even better year in 2011. I had my first ever bonus from my current job and to commemorate the occasion, I had bought a new smart phone for myself, the HTC Desire as a year end present to myself, heehee.

My sister Mun will be back in Brunei for a 2-week holiday soon end of january after her upcoming exams, and I am excited for her return! Hee! I'll be taking a few days off to spend some time with her and my family. If you noticed, I have not applied for holiday leave in December since I wanted to wait for her return before applying. More posts coming up next! :)

Winter Village

Last night, I went out with my work colleagues; Ka Hjh Radiah, Watie, Anis, Shidah & her fiance Amir to the Empire Hotel & Country Club to see the Winter Village that they created and snap some pics of Mr Santa Claus, Mrs Claus, Santa's sleigh, make believe snow man and the huge Christmas tree made up of monkey teddy bears in the hotel lobby. I believe that the Winter Village will be opened until the 26th of December if anyone is interested to check it out. We spent over an hour there before heading out to Hj Saban's famous soto place in Tungku for dinner of tungking and bbq chicken. It was a fun evening indeed! Below are some piccies! :)

My rant: Worst day ever!

Today has got to be one of the worst day ever.

I was involved in a little road accident through no fault of mine at all! Oh my shiny new car! Erghh..

That was the first ever road accident that I experienced while I was behind the wheels. Here's the story.

So right after work today, I was on my way to Kota Batu to send my cousins home. Mom was there to accompany me since I am not very familiar yet with the roads in that area. When we were in Bandar stopping at the traffic lights near Sg Kianggeh (next to the Bolkiah cinema) while waiting to turn left to go over the bridge, a white car ran through the red lights from the road heading straight to the bridge. By that time, our lights had turned green, and so this black car in front of us sped up and nearly collided with the white car from before. We didn't think much of it, so we just turned left to go over the bridge and was then on our way behind the white and black cars.

I think the driver from the black car was pissed off with the white car and we can clearly see him tailing the white car closely from behind. He was provoking the white car in front of him as well as trying to take over the white car from the left! (Mind you, there is only 1 lane for each direction of the road) This continued on until we reached the Kota batu area (I kept a safe distance from the 2 cars ahead of me all this time), when the black car made a signal to the left and entered a simpang while honking the white car in front. We can clearly see this from behind. We thought that this will be the end of it. How wrong!

The white car ahead of us was provoked and immediately braked his car and made a fast straight reverse to get back to the black car in the simpang (without turning around) heading to our direction right behind him and crashed into my car!! Stupid stupid stupid driver! Inda kan nda tepikir nada kerita lain di belakang ah, sampai telanggar kerita orang lain! Jalan utama jua tu!

While the white car was speeding in reverse to our direction, I was so confused at first at what he was trying to do. I thought he was trying to reverse to the side of the road, but noooo, directly dapan keritaku di belakangnya! At that time, mom was so tekajut and tried to tell me to reverse to avoid the impending collision but in my confusion, I can only brake and blast out my horn but it was too late!

The driver from the previous black car turun ke bawah, and the driver from the white car turun from his car and durang bekelahi tangah-tangah jalan raya. Apakan!? Bida jua eh, mun kan bekalahi jangan sampai orang innocent yang lain di jalan raya menjadi mangsa! Astah.

The wife of the white car driver ran to us to apologise and said that they did not see us at the back and ask why we did not horn them in warning. Astah, nda kan nda tepikir atu jalan raya, banyak pemandu nya. Nda jua ku sampat kan menghorn-horn lagi tu. Rasa marah ku jua bila ia tanya cematu. I got out of my car with mom and cousins pasal we were in shock and inspected the damage. Thank goodness there are no dents on my front bumpers or any broken lights, ganya ngingis saja on a small area of kereta ku di dapan kirinya atu. Bekumpul tarus kerita orang lain meliat kami tangah-tangah jalan, so ahirnya we moved the car to the road side to prevent traffic.

I called my dad to help me with the 'discussion' and to make the story short, the 2 drivers made up (kereta durang nada papa, keritaku yang tekana *masih bitter hehe*) and we are in agreement that the white car driver will pay for any damages or repairs needed to my car nanti. But still, my shiny new car sudah ada ngingis, sasak ku eh. Hopefully once berepair, it will be good as new.

So to other road users, road rage can only cause harm to other people. Ani tah lagi kami membawa kanak-kanak dalam kerita, baik jua nda papa, nyawa bah tu! Yang pentingnya, kami semua selamat tadi. Baik jua nda ku report ke polis. Yang calinya dua-dua lagi kerajanya polis yang bekelahi tadi ani. Apa sudah jadi lah! Please respect all road users! Use the road wisely!

*** Feels good to rant. Please take note, I am a very patient person and is very seldom angry but this is inexcusable! There.

Ismah's Baby Shower

My friend Ismah recently gave birth to an adorable baby girl on the 25th of October. If you do remember from one of my earlier posts, I was part of the G club which comprises of Ismah, Jalwaa, Sa'dy, Ayun & Ziqah back in high school, lol, and by high school, I meant Maktab Sains. The 6 of us have been friends since Form 1 (in 1998) and have been in contact over the years. So Ismah was the first of the group to get married and now the first to have a baby. To Khalid & Ismah, congratulations! :)

Today we were invited to Ismah's baby shower at her family residence in Sg. Besar. Baby Aesyah and the happy parents wore matching green outfits for the occasion. Our other MS friends were also there to attend the baby shower. Below are some piccies from today! :)

Swing that Racket I say!

As part of my unconscious effort to exercise (see earlier post), I decided to join Rahmat, Nabilah, Shing & her brother, Ayun & her siblings to play badminton last Tuesday at the Centrepoint Hotel. I did not realise that there are badminton courts in the hotel until Rahmat introduced it to us. The courts are on the 7th floor of the hotel and rental fee of 1 court is $10 per hour. We played for 2 hours before ahem, Nab and I headed to Coffee Bean to take away the ice blended DOUBLE chocolate drink. Yum! There goes the exercise down the drain, lol. :P

I'm in the mood to make some changes to my blog and hence you can see the result again! :) Can you believe that it is December already? I don't remember if I have reached any of my new year resolutions which I have to admit that I have forgotten all about. But keeping up with traditions, it is time to think of new ones for year 2011 again, but that will only be revealed in another future post.

I decided to do some digging on some of my older posts and tadaa!! You can see what my main resolutions are this year here hehe. As you can see, I managed to achieve my resolution of getting a good job (Yay!) while my performance on the whole wanting-to-lose-weight resolution is pretty questionable hahaha. The thing is, I am pretty content with how I am although medically speaking I do have to lose some weight for my own future benefit. Something to think about on another day. Well, just to show that I am making some effort to "lose weight", I recently went hiking with some of my work colleagues at Tasek. It's a good bonding experience while exercising my stiff muscles which has been sleeping for months, yes, it is that bad! Hehe.

Dinner at JP

Last night, I went out with my work friends for dinner of ayam salai and tungking at that famous salai place in Jerudong Park. We ordered $10 worth of bbq chicken wings and $5 of tungking in addition to other side dishes. The 45 minutes was worth the wait. Yes, we waited that long and yes there was a super long queue and yes, it is that famous! Hehe. We were actually planning to walk around the park as well but unfortunately it rained rather heavily so we just stayed at the food court and eat haha.

Yesterday afternoon, I went with my parents to represent my sister who has been awarded with 2 awards: Pelajar Cemerlang & Pelajar Terbaik from the Ministry of Religious Affairs in a ceremony held in Bridex. The awards were presented by the minister himself and dad went on stage to receive the awards twice on my sister's behalf. Congrats Mun! :))) So this post is especially dedicated to my sister Mun in Mesir, hehe. I also had the the opportunity to meet with 2 of my former IRK teachers Cgu Mariani and Cgu Jurinah. A Day On the Waters

Below are some piccies from my recent trip to the water village to visit a few homes! :)

At Menunggol. My first visit ever. It is a small island at the Kg Ayer area which is reachable by boat. It has a population of about 300 people, with it's own primary school, surau, sundry shop, etc. It is not accessible by car, therefore it can only be reached by boat. However, the population living there have their own cars brought to the island via barges. There is no petrol station on the island thus they have to buy their petrol using tanks from the nearby station via boat.

The One With The Road Trip

One of the things that I love about my job is the fact that I am not stuck in the office all the time to the point that everything gets monotonous at times. As part of my job, I get to drive around the country to visit people at their homes, see how they live their life in their own turf which can be quite humbling and eye opening as well as discovering new places that I am not familiar with here in Brunei. This always makes the job interesting.

I have never ever been to Temburong in my life eventhough I live in Brunei hehe. I finally got the chance to go today, as we had to do a few home visits to see some of our patients in the district. We drove through Limbang to Temburong and had to go through customs twice. We also had to pay a toll of B$4 or RM$8 in order to cross the river from Limbang to Temburong via ferry. I was pleasantly surprised to see that some of the roads in Temburong and the general feel of the district are not that different from the ones in Bandar although I did notice a lot of open spaces, some quarry sites and lots and lots of trees & other green life. Sunshine School Silver Anniversary

Hello dear readers! :)

It is almost 2 weeks since my last update, hehe. Most of my time has been consumed with work and so forth. What fun things have I been up to this past 2 weeks? Well, I have been looking forward to attend some sort of a reunion with my primary school teachers and classmates for a few months now. The night finally came last Saturday night, on 16th October 2010. If you have been following my blog for some time now, you may have gathered that I am a Sunshine School Alumni, who graduated Primary 6 back in 1997. Through facebook and word of mouth, we learnt that the school will be holding a Silver (25th year) anniversary in October. I bought my $30 ticket during Ramadhan through a former teacher of mine, Cikgu Shamsiah. She was my class teacher back in Primary 5 in 1996, if I am not mistaken.

So on the 16th of October, I decided to carpool with my 2 oldest friends since our years in Sunshine; Mas & Zamriah. The function was scheduled to be held at the Jerudong Park Polo & Riding Club, from 7pm to 11pm. Upon arrival, we immediately spotted a lot of our former teachers waiting at the entrance and this led to lots of catching up. We admitted that we were pretty nervous since it has been more than a decade since we last saw them. Fortunately, they still remembered who we are, hehe. According to our teachers, our batch was the second batch to start at the school, which made us pretty senior to all the other kids, haha. And apparently, we were the good kids back then hahaha, when compared to kids nowadays, lol. There were a few x-classmates from our batch who came to the reunion. We were seated with some of the teachers after mingling around. While enjoying dinner, we were treated to performances by the teachers as well as the presence of guest performances from Ms. Angelique and the Bloom Brothers who flew in to Brunei especially for the Anniversary. We stayed well after 11pm, and then said our goodbyes with exchange of phone numbers and the promise of another mini reunion. After the function, Mas, Zam and I decided to continue on the night by 'menungking' at the famous tungking place in JP before heading home. Below are some piccies from the anniversary! :)

Bon Voyage Mun!

Hello peeps! :) How is everybody doing? I have been super super busy lately that I haven't had the time to sit down and update my blog. Forgive me? Hehe. The reason for my busyness was that we have been helping out and visiting my Tangah's family a lot during the past week or so, since my cousin Hazman recently got married. Usually I got home at around 5pm onwards, rest a bit, then after Isya', we went to Tangah's and stayed till late. The cycle continues again the next day until the Sanding ceremony just held recently. So now I have tons to update about hehe.

As you know, my sister recently flew to Cairo, Egypt to pursue her studies at Al-Azhar University. It has been 2 weeks since she has been gone. The house is very quiet, well, quieter than usual. I am missing her a lot and I wish her a great time in Mesir. Thank goodness for technology, so it's easy to communicate with her, be it through text msgs, calls, msn or skype. Oh, and my sister recently suggested that we use Oovoo which I have yet to download hehe. Well, she left Brunei on 19th September at 8pm. My cousins, aunts and uncles were in the airport to see her off. Fortunately, her flights were hassle-free and she landed safely in Egypt.

Get Together at Empire

Yesterday afternoon, I attended a get together ceremony for MoRA scholarship students at the Empire Hotel and Country Club. Dad had a fever and couldn't come to the function, therefore I replaced him and came along with mom to accompany my sister. Who do I meet at the event? My former IRK teacher at MS, Cikgu Mariani! Apparently she is currently working for MoRA. We were treated to Hi-Tea followed by a 'ramah mesra' with the Minister of Religious Affairs. Hari Raya 2010 Part 2

On Monday, 13th September 2010, we held a Doa Selamat for my sister, Munirah. I would like to congratulate my sister for getting a scholarship to Mesir!! :D We received the confirmation early this month, and decided to hold the Doa Selamat on the 4th day of Raya. She will be pursuing a degree in Syariah Islamiah at Al-Azhar University in Mesir for 4 years. I am so proud and happy for her. You deserve it sis! Hehe. The sad thing is that she will be leaving this Sunday, which is 4 days away! Thank goodness I managed to get a 5 day holiday after Raya so that I could spend more time with her before she leaves. I am very close to my sister since she is my only sibling hehe, and therefore will surely miss her company. I hope you will strive for the best and will learn to take care of yourself once you get there.

Hari Raya 2010 Part 1

Sambutan Nuzul Al Quran

Hello folks! :) It has been 2 weeks since my last update. I've been a busy bee lately, hehe. First of all, I would like to wish all Muslims a 'Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri' & 'Maaf Zahir dan Batin!' :) I've got a couple of updates under my sleeve, so let's get cracking! Hehe. As you can see, I have decided to change my blog's appearance again. I haven't been checking my blog for some time, and I was like, Whoa! What happened to the background? when I made the time to visit. Hence, the change, hehe. I'm currently on holiday. I actually extended my Raya cuti til end of this week, so now I have got some time to make a few posts, I hope.

Let's start with a Nuzul Al-Quran celebration that was held on Tuesday, 31st August at RIPAS hospital. In conjunction with the celebration, donations were given to orphans and those who are really in need of help. Our unit took part in the preparation for donations to our patients. I am loving my job so far! Hehe. Below are piccies from the event! :)

Bread pudding with cheese

Over the weekend, I tried a new recipe. It has been a while since I have baked anything, hehe. This time I tried to bake bread pudding. The interesting thing about it is that it has cheese in it which pique my interest to try it out. Turns out to be successful hehe, although it was less sweet than what I am used to, although that should be a good thing. :)

Sungkai & the Gorgeous Cupcakes

Yesterday I went out with Tiyah & Rahmat for sungkai. We decided to try out the buffet at Manjaro restaurant in Kiulap. It was an "all-you-can-eat" buffet, costing at $13.90 per head. The staff is very friendly and food is great. The restaurant atmosphere is cozy and comfy, a good place to chat with friends. After dinner, a restaurant staff came out with a birthday cake or rather beautiful birthday cupcakes accompanied by the rendition of a Happy Birthday song by both Tiyah & Rahmat! Heehee. Thanks guys!

After dinner, we decided to check out DVDs before heading to the Gadong Mall. I had a fun evening and again thanks again for the wonderful birthday cake! Below are some piccies from yesterday, hehe.
